A late-summer heatwave brought high temperatures and plenty of sunshine to the Rhein-Main area during the weekend of 26-28 August, making FIS's annual Welcome BBQ one of the hottest on record.
The heat didn't stop families from the gathering, though, and hundreds – clad in shorts and sandals and wearing high SPF sunscreen – joined the celebration for delicious food and socializing.
In addition to the dozens of savory side dishes and sweet treats that the parent community provided, faculty and staff volunteers stayed busy on the grill, serving up nearly 300 Bratwuerstchen and more than 600 hamburgers! As a testament to how hot the day really was, a final tally showed that more than 600 liters of beverages were consumed during the three-hour event.
During the BBQ volunteers also provided a series of parent-to-parent info sessions to help newcomers connect with the FIS community through shared interest groups focused on activities like running, tennis, golf, hiking, biking and more.
The Welcome BBQ is the school's first big event of the year and provided a perfect opportunity for new families to mingle with those returning. FISW's Welcome BBQ takes place on Sunday 4 September, and although temperatures are expected to be much more manageable, the event certainly will be just as popular.
