In advance of the school's annual Worldfest celebration on 21 May, Primary and Elementary School students were invited to submit an illustration representing a cultural celebration from their home country. Students took the challenge to heart, submitting more than 150 entries for the Worldfest Poster Contest.
The sheer number of entries – and quality of submissions – made the task of selecting winners an arduous one for judges. The basis for judging included whether or not the artwork clearly showed a cultural traditional celebration and a description to help put the illustration into context for viewers, among other criteria.
Ultimately, judges selected three posters (pictured below) – one from the Primary School, another from the Grade 2-3 group, and a final one from the Grade 4-5 group – that stood out among all of the entries. They also selected one for honorable mention that while didn't exactly show a traditional celebration, included an amazing amount of detail in highlighting traditional dress.
All poster submissions have been displayed in the Primary and Elementary Schools, providing visitors a glimpse into the many exciting celebrations that are a part of our community members' lives.
