Primary School Library
The Primary School Library is much more than a library. It is a world of discovery and wonderment. It is a place where our young students learn the importance of books in their academic development. One of the outcomes of their regular visits to the library is the gradual understanding of the joy and inspiration books will bring throughout their lives. From First Steps and beyond, wonderful and exciting stories are being read and shared.
The library plays an important role in the Primary Years Programme, supporting the units of inquiry in the classrooms and helping teach the skills needed for students to become lifelong learners. Children will also learn library and information skills and how they can use the library to enhance their classroom learning experience.
The Primary School Library is a well-equipped resource center, with more than 12,000 items, including fiction and non-fiction books, DVDs, audio books, CDs, and an international section with books in many languages.
Sudents visit once per week with their class and are free to visit individually to research or browse. In addition, several bookfairs are organized by the PTG each year, offering a wide selection of quality titles, in English, for purchase.
Borrowing Guidelines
All days are borrowing days! The loan period for all students is one week; for parents it is three weeks for books and one week for DVDs and audio books.
• First Steps - Pre-Primary: One book
• Primary: Two books
• Grade 1: Three books
• Parents: Unlimited (books, DVDs, CDs, audio books etc.)
Parent Involvement
Parents are welcome to visit the library with their children before or after school to select books. In addition, there are professional collections available that are of interest to parents and teachers.
Parents are welcome to visit the library during open hours to browse the parents' collection and check out books, CDs, DVDs or audio books.
Volunteering
We would not be able to run our library without the many people who donate their time each week to helping maintain our library and its resources.
If you would be interested in volunteering for a few hours each week in the Primary School Library please contact Gerardine Bodey. We would love for you to join us.
