Old Main
Old Main is the building the school originated in, and was completely remodeled in 2008.
Primary School
The Primary School is a beautiful two-story building that houses students in First Steps through Grade 1.
Elementary School
Students at the FIS Elementary School in Grades 2 - 5 follow the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate (PYP). Classes are taught by homeroom teachers, and students move to specialists' classes for German, art, music, physical education, drama, technology, and library studies.
Upper School
The Upper School is for students in Grades 6 - 12. In addition to the new Arts, Science & Technology Wing, the school is continually updated throughout to ensure an environment conducive to learning.
The Arts, Sciences and Technology Wing
The new Arts, Sciences and Technology Wing was completed in the fall of 2006. The new wing includes new two computer labs, Design & Technology labs, new science labs and new rooms for band, choir, drama, and music.
Primary School Library
The Primary School library is a world of discovery and wonderment where young students learn the importance of books in their academic development. The library includes a collection of over 10,000 books, as well as a parents' collection of materials for check out, such as CDs, videos, and DVDs.
Primary School Mac Lab
This light and spacious room has 18 iMac computers and a SMART Board for the children’s use. Students regularly attend classes led by the Primary Schools ICT Coordinator.
Primary School Playground
Students enjoy daily recesses outside. The recess area includes a variety of structures, as well as an enclosed area for ball play. The school is surrounded by beautiful wooded areas with paths on which the students go on regular walks to explore and learn about nature.
Primary School Gym
The Primary School has a state-of-the-art gym, outfitted with a variety of equipment that is geared to the physical developmental needs of younger students. Students at the Primary School attend two gym classes a week.
Primary School Music Room
All students at the Primary School attend music classes twice weekly as part of the school's curriculum. Music is taught by a specialist teacher in a large purpose-built room, and students have access to a variety of instruments from all over the world.
Primary School Classroom
The Primary School classrooms are spacious, well equipped, light-filled rooms that provide an ideal environment for young students to develop a love for learning. Most classes are equipped with SMART Board interactive whiteboards.
Elementary School Library
The Elementary School library, renovated in the summer of 2007, is a place where students learn the researching skills they will need throughout their education from weekly lessons given by the librarian. The library is equipped with Dell PCs and a SMART Board interactive whiteboard.
Elementary School Playground
In addition to two play areas, the Elementary School students also play on the new sports' field every day at recess. Learning to play well together is an important part of the Elementary School.
Elementary School Classroom
At the FIS Elementary School students are grouped into homerooms, and move to specialists' rooms for art, German, music, and physical education classes. At FIS a German immersion program is also offered, allowing students in Grades 2 - 5 to learn in German.
Elementary School Art Studios
Students in the Elementary School attend regular art classes taught by a specialist instructor. Students learn the fundamentals of visual arts, working with a range of mediums, and proudly display their works throughout the Elementary School.
Upper School Library
The Upper School Library is where FIS students, faculty, and parents go when they need 21st century information. Equipped with a computer lab, viewing room, reading area, study space, and a collection of more than 20,000 books, magazines, newspapers, and DVDs, the US Library program ensures that students acquire the 21st century research skills they need to become effective and efficient users of information.
Upper School Science Lab
There are nine well-equipped science labs available to meet the needs of the Upper School IB curriculum in biology, chemistry, physics and environmental sciences. Five of the science labs are in the new Art, Science & Technology Wing that opened in the fall of 2006.
Upper School Design & Technology Lab
The FIS Design & Technology program is based on the belief that all students are able to develop unique ideas and translate them into action when provided with the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques to achieve their intentions.
Upper School Art Studios
The art studios at FIS are the result of years of planning. The studios were the result of rough sketches made by the art teachers in consultation with the project manager. Each studio is over 104 qm, includes 9 qm of skylights, and has its own fume hood/spray booth, multiple purpose-designed sinks, and specially designed moveable wall-panels that can be positioned almost anywhere in the studio.
Upper School Performing Arts
New band, choir, drama and music studios are located in the new Science, Art & Technology wing that opened in the fall of 2006. These rooms are large, light-filled, and designed specifically to serve the performing art that is taught within it.
Elementary and Upper School Cafeteria
The cafeteria at the main Waldlust campus, which was renovated in 2008, is open from 8 – 13:30 every day, serves the Elementary and the Upper School, and provides both hot and cold breakfast, snack and lunch items.
Elementary and Upper School Sports Field
The new sports field opened in the fall of 2006, as part of the new Arts, Sciences and Technology addition. Students play on the field during recess and lunch breaks, and games are held on the field throughout the school year.
