Will you help to make a lasting impact?
Please volunteer for the 2020 FISW
Cultural Celebration!
We are delighted to announce our sixth consecutive Cultural Celebration at FISW during the beginning of February 2020.
The purpose of this annual event is an opportunity for students to learn more about their own cultures and work where possible, in their first languages. This year students will be exploring their cultural self-identity through developing their personal knowledge of structures in their "home countries," as well as gaining a deeper understanding of how the structures represent their culture's identity and values.
How can you help?
- offering to lead the group
- collecting/sharing examples of structures that are significant to your home culture for the group to use,
- joining a group for several of the sessions in a supporting role
- offering to lead a session and share particular knowledge about structures in your country
Grouping preference:
Children are ideally grouped by the language/country they feel most connected to. Parents, if your child is from the United States or Germany, you can choose which region best suits them via a survey. If you are new to our school, please let us know as soon as possible which language/country group your child would like to be part of, if it is different from what you indicated on your admissions application for nationality.
Event Schedule:
- Friday, 31 January, 8:50-9:30 – Kick off assembly and find and sit in groups
- Tuesday, 4 February, 8:40-10:00 – What ideas do we have about the theme?
- Wednesday, 5 February, 8:40-10:00 – Bringing and sharing photos or models of structures
- Thursday, 6 February, 8:40-10:00 – Identifying themes and how they represent our culture as well as deciding what we will share with others
- Tuesday, 11 February, 8:40-10:00 – Finalization session; refining our "final product" and practicing how we will share
- Wednesday, 12 February, 8:40-9:30 – Sharing and celebrating what we learned!
If you were a volunteer last year, we would love to have you back. If you are new parents at our school and would like to join our group of volunteers, we would love that, too! Please contact Scott Kelson by 27 January at fisw_ptg@fis.edu if you would like to volunteer.
Thanks so much!
Kind regards,
