a place to love to learn

Teacher working with a girl student

We pride ourselves in offering an academic experience that is both challenging and differentiated, while at the same time ensures that our students have unique opportunities and are encouraged to just be kids.

Our diverse community focuses on supporting each of our approximately 450 students though excellence, opportunity, and balance, and through the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum framework, we focus on developing the whole child.

The FIS Elementary School is one that values inclusiveness. Our English Language Acquisition (ELA) learners are supported by a dedicated team of specialist teachers, and we employ a talented Learning Support team that is experienced in supporting students who may need further specialized instruction. We are committed to differentiation across all levels and are mindful of providing enrichment opportunities for students who require additional challenges.

While the majority of student learning takes place in spacious and well-resourced classrooms, or our dedicated Elementary School Library, Makerspace, Science Lab, and other facilities, students also have a wide range of activities to choose from through our REAL Activities program, or service learning groups such as Earth Rescue.

"Teachers at FIS teach you different ways of doing things. I am looking forward to many things in Grade 6 including that in each class there are tons of opportunities to look forward to and enjoy."

Engage with STEM

Kids working with science experiment

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are a focus for all students in the Elementary School. From our differentiated math curriculum, opportunities in the Makerspace, and science lab, students have the chance to explore all areas of STEM

Discover Our Outdoor Classrooms

Outdoor learning is an integral part of our curriculum on both campuses. On the Oberursel campus, Elementary School students enjoy specially-designed outdoor spaces adjacent to their classrooms, and can explore a pond area on campus and the nearby Taunus forest to learn across subjects. Students are required to have appropriate clothing for outdoor learning as "forest days" are a regular part of the program.

Acquire New Language Skills

FIS provides many opportunities to develop new language skills. For those new to English, we offer a robust program for English Language Acquisition (ELA). With support from our ELA teachers, students will quickly acquire the language skills to fully engage in the classroom. A German/English bilingual program is also available on the Oberursel campus beginning in Grade 3 to provide students a more intensive German language learning experience.

The FIS Oberursel Elementary School sits adjacent to the FIS Upper School, but features spaces specifically designed for Grade 2-5 students, including two playgrounds, a Makerspace and science lab, two art studios and music room, and an expansive library. Elementary School students share other facilities, such as the cafeteria, sports hall, athletic fields and performing arts auditorium with Grade 6-12 students.
