Parent Presentation: "Curiosity or Calamity? Navigating Sex and Relationships in the Digital Age."
Date: Tuesday - 11 February, 2020
Time: 19:00 to 20:30
Location: FIS Auditorium
FIS/FISW parents are invited to a special presentation with award-winning educator, trainer, program consultant and author, Dr. Elizabeth Schroeder, entitled: "Curiosity or Calamity? Navigating Sex and Relationships in the Digital Age." More and more young people are accessing porn for their sexuality information and this is leaving many adults concerned about the impact viewing this material has on young people's physical and emotional health and well-being. In addition, the proliferation of technology has enabled individuals to use handheld devices, tablets and other sexually explicit messages and visuals (sexting) to others. What is the true impact of all of this? This presentation will provide an overview of how much high school-age youth are accessing porn and what research tells us the impacts are (and are not!). We will also discuss why many adults are so worried - and what we can do to best support young people in their sexual growth and development. Although this session focuses on upper school-aged children, all parents are welcome.
