After completing the final leg of their educational journey (IB exams), students from the Class of 2018 will find themselves walking across the stage on Saturday 2 June to accept their hard-earned FIS diploma. Joining them for the monumental occasion as the commencement speaker will be jazz pianist and studio musician, Luis Resto.
Mr. Resto was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where he still lives and works. He is a professional musician, keyboard player, and music producer of significant repute, having started out as a teenager passionate about music to become a Grammy and Oscar Award winner for his song, "Lose Yourself," featured in the movie, 8 Mile.
Mr. Resto is still dedicated to music – and to his home town of Detroit – and last summer, was again named Detroit's classical musician of the year. In recent years he's also been an artist-in-residence at Interlochen Arts Academy, a school for the arts in Michigan.
In addition to his commencement address, Mr. Resto will spend two weeks working with students across divisions at FIS, conducting music workshops focusing on improvisation, studio work and composing with electronics. We feel lucky to have him with us for this experience. Te learn more about Mr. Resto, please visit http://www.luisresto.com/
