Graduation for the Class of 2019 is just over one week away, and joining seniors for the celebration will be this year's commencement speaker, award-winning journalist, Marcia Biggs.
For more than a decade, Ms. Biggs has been reporting news from around the globe, largely covering conflict and humanitarian crises. Her passion for reporting the news and educating the public has taken her to many of the conflict zones that have dominated news headlines in recent years, including places like Iraq and Syria in the Middle East, and Honduras in Central America; in 2018, she became one of the few television journalists to travel to Yemen.
Her journalism experience hasn't just been limited to conflict zones, however. Ms. Biggs has also been involved in documentaries that range from studying the lives of widows of the 9-11 tragedy to the transformation of New Zealand’s landscape into Lord of the Ring’s “Middle Earth.” She has also served as an adjunct professor at the CUNY Newmark School of Journalism.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming Ms. Biggs to our campus – and to our graduation ceremony – on Saturday, 1 June.
