Performing Arts at FISW
Drama and Dance at FISW
In First Steps – Grade 5, Drama is integrated across the curriculum and taught by all teachers. Students in Grades 6-8 undertake Drama as a course with a specialist Drama teacher. All students from First Steps to Grade 8 have regular opportunities to develop their drama skills, and regularly present or perform to our school community and parents.
Once a year, each student participates in an age-appropriate stage performance for parents. This is usually a combination of drama, music and dance, and is often written and created by students and centered around a unit of inquiry.
Choir at FISW
Students in Grades 1-3 can participate in Junior Choir and Grades 4-8 can participate in FISW Singers. Choir rehearsals take place at lunchtimes. Both choirs perform in our music concerts and assemblies throughout the year, as well as outside performances at local community events.
Instrumentals at FISW
Students in Grades 1-8 can participate in before-school string classes. Guitar is offered as both a lunchtime or after-school class. Students in Grades 6-8 can learn to play a new instrument and become part of a band as an elective part of the music program. Three concerts during the school year provide instrumentalists an opportunity to showcase their musical skills. Other Grade 6-8 music elective courses include Strings, Keyboard and Guitar.
