FIS Building project

Frankfurt International School is working with the architectural firm Fielding International to transform the Oberursel Campus by creating new flexible and purpose-built spaces to enhance personalized student learning, foster curiosity and innovation, promote student expression and celebrate diversity.

The school's three-phase facilities master plan focuses on addressing the need for more common and social spaces for students to connect, as well as more student-centered learning environments that offer flexibility for scheduling and use of space. All of these renovations are in line with the guiding principles of cultivating belonging for all, and creating a culture of coaching and collaboration through a wide range of educational and professional working environments.

Construction for the first phase of this facilities master plan includes a complete renovation and expansion of the dinning space at the Oberursel Cafeteria, renovation of the Upper School Entrance and expansion into the Alumni Courtyard, as well as the renovation of the facade and the windows around the courtyard. It began in June 2024, and is slated to be completed by January 2025. Further phases will include a pathfinder project to transform the Elementary School's teaching and learning spaces (Summer 2025), and the addition of performing arts, visual arts and science spaces in the Upper School's Da Vinci Wing (starting 2027).

We are excited about the new World of Opportunities these facility enhancements will open up for our entire FIS Community and hope you are, too.

In the final construction project update before the school's Winter Break (and the end of 2024!), one word describes when the monumental Cafeteria project will be complete: soon!

As we move into the month of December, work on the major renovation of the FIS Cafeteria, Upper School Entrance and Alumni Courtyard continues to show signs of significant progress.
